In T20 Blast 2024, Sikandar Raza made a stunning grab to remove Adam Hose.
In Northampton, Northamptonshire defeated Worcestershire by a score of six runs.
Zimbabwe’s top all-around player, Sikandar Raza, is well-known for his outstanding fielding ability, as well as his batting and bowling prowess. He is an invaluable asset in the field due to his agility and quick reflexes; his spectacular catches and quick thinking frequently convert possible boundaries into important wickets. In the T20 Blast 2024 match between Worcestershire and Northamptonshire, Raza made one of the most spectacular catches of the competition, showcasing his skill as a fielder.
The game’s high point occurred during Worcestershire’s run chase in the 13th over when Raza dismissed Adam Hose with an incredible catch. After hitting two sixes and as many boundaries in his first 21 balls of play, Hose tried to clear long-off with a forceful drive off a pitched-up delivery from Saif Zaib.
In a stroke of genius, Raza dashed to his right and dove to grab an incredible catch just inches inside the boundary ropes. This amazing effort displayed Raza’s outstanding fielding abilities, stunned both the players and the spectators, and shifted the tide in Northamptonshire’s favor.
After electing to bat first, Northamptonshire stumbled early, losing four wickets for just 90 runs. However, a steady partnership between Sikandar Raza and Saif Zaib rescued the innings.
Raza’s composed, unbeaten 42 off 31 balls, featuring three sixes and two boundaries, helped anchor the innings. Zaib added an unbeaten 44, forming a vital 79-run stand for the fifth wicket. Their efforts lifted Northamptonshire to a competitive total of 169/4 in 20 overs.
Chasing 170, Worcestershire had a solid start, with Adam Hose scoring 30 off 21 balls and Gareth Roderick keeping the chase alive with a rapid 39 off 22. However, inconsistency among the rest of the lineup hurt their chances. Zaib, who was outstanding with the ball, took 3 for 20 in four overs, further hampered Worcestershire’s momentum. Despite their efforts, they managed only 163/9, falling just 6 runs short.
In a thrilling contest between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the T20 World Cup 2024, Towhid Hridoy’s explosive batting helped Bangladesh secure a narrow two-wicket win at the Grand Prairie Stadium. The match witnessed a spectacular display of power-hitting from Hridoy, who turned the tide with three consecutive sixes off Sri Lankan skipper Wanindu Hasaranga.
After opting to bowl, Bangladesh’s bowlers kept Sri Lanka’s batting in check. Rishad Hossain (3/20) and Mustafizur Rahman (3/24) delivered tight spells, limiting Sri Lanka to a modest total of 124/9. Pathum Nissanka’s 47 was the lone standout for Sri Lanka as their batting struggled to gain momentum.
Bangladesh’s chase began cautiously, but the momentum shifted dramatically when Towhid Hridoy took charge in the 11th over. He unleashed a brutal assault on Hasaranga, smashing three consecutive sixes—a flat pull, a towering slog-sweep, and a powerful drive over long-off. This aggressive display completely swung the game in Bangladesh’s favor, leaving Sri Lanka reeling.
Despite Hridoy’s heroics, Bangladesh faced a late scare as Sri Lanka fought back with quick wickets. However, veteran Mahmudullah held his nerve, guiding Bangladesh to a dramatic two-wicket victory. Hridoy’s performance, marked by audacity and brilliance, laid the foundation for the win, giving Bangladesh a crucial boost in their T20 World Cup campaign.
“We started really well in the first 10 overs, but in the middle overs, we batted badly. Bowling is our strength. If we had got 150-160 we could have won with our bowling attack. The batters let us down in both games. We still have two games, and we will try our best. Maheesh and myself are the two main spinners, and we have to attack,” said the losing captain, Hasaranga, in the post-match presentation.
