The Warwickshire Cricket Foundation, a brand-new nonprofit organization, has been established to support countywide commitments to encourage recreational cricket and encourage everyone to pick up the game.
The Warwickshire Cricket Foundation seeks to promote employment and training opportunities in sport, foster recreational cricket throughout the region, assist state-educated children in participating, and help clubs become more inclusive and sustainable.
The school’s program grew in 2023 to encourage a new generation of cricket fans and players; its coaches spoke with 32,000 students in Birmingham and Warwickshire.
Weekly half-term sessions, one-time cricket days, and targeted activities are offered in schools where over 40% of students are eligible for free meals.
The Warwickshire Cricket Foundation, established after the Edgbaston Foundation and Warwickshire Cricket Board merged, is headed by Fidelis Navas. Navas stated that the new organization will assist the Club in achieving even more.
She said: “The charity has been a year in the making, so to see it come to fruition is really exciting. I’ve seen first-hand how cricket can bring communities together, develop communication and social skills, and improve physical and mental health.
“Our ethos is ‘cricket without limits.’ We want to remove any limitations or barriers to access cricket, be it where you work or volunteer or the sport you play; it should be loved by everyone. I want the Foundation to be at the forefront of using cricket for good.
“Expanding cricket participation among women and girls is also a key focus for the Foundation and we’ll continue to support recreational clubs to set up and run women and girls sections as well as setting up community hubs throughout the county.
“Achieving charity status is important as it will help us access additional funding streams, while we also have some exciting fundraising activities planned.”
The Foundation made its official debut at a cricket festival at Edgbaston Stadium on Friday, March 1, as part of the first of those fundraising events.
Players from Warwickshire’s Disability Access team will assist in coaching students from a nearby college for special education needs during the festival.
As part of their Foundation-funded training, the Access team is strengthening their leadership and communication skills and qualifications as cricket coaches. This training benefits the team members, improves the caliber of coaching in our community, and inspires a broader audience to love the game.
The festival will also feature participation from Bears players, women’s groups, volunteers on match days, local cricket club players, and students from two primary schools.
Following the success of the 2023 initiative, which over 200 schools took part in, the Six Schools cashback scheme is back for 2024.
This program provides schools across Warwickshire and the surrounding areas with the opportunity to purchase tickets for two Vitality Blast games at a discounted rate, making it a cost-effective and enjoyable outing for students and their families.
In 2024, participating schools can choose from two exciting options:
Adult tickets start at just £13, and tickets for Under-16s are available for only £5, ensuring that families can enjoy watching the Bears while supporting their school. Each adult ticket purchased through the unique promo code provided to each school will generate £6 in cashback, which is reinvested to fund local school projects.
Additionally, schools that purchase more than 20 tickets will be added to a prize drawing for special rewards, including a signed Bears shirt for their school.
