Shoaib Malik Reacts to T20 League Contract Termination Amid’ Match Fixing’ Allegations

Shoaib Malik took to social media to dismiss rumors of his departure from Fortune Barishal, a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team member.

Shoaib Malik, the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, has recently been at the center of a media storm due to rumors regarding his departure from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team, Fortune Barishal. The allegations, which suggested that Malik was involved in match-fixing activities, have been met with solid denial from the veteran cricketer. He took to social media, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter), to clarify the situation and set the record straight.

The controversy began when media reports surfaced, claiming that Malik was suspected of match-fixing following his performance in a match against the Khulna Tigers. In that game, Malik bowled three no-balls in a single over, which raised eyebrows and sparked allegations of foul play. According to these reports, this incident led to an internal investigation within the Fortune Barishal franchise, supposedly resulting in the termination of Malik’s contract with the team.

However, Malik wasted no time addressing these rumors, taking to his social media platform to clarify the nature of his departure from the team. Malik refuted the match-fixing allegations in his post, calling them “false.” He explained that his exit from Fortune Barishal had nothing to do with the accusations being circulated in the media. 

According to Malik, his departure from the BPL franchise was a pre-arranged decision, one that was made before any of the events in question took place. He stressed that his contract with the team had already been set to end, and the allegations of match-fixing were baseless and had no impact on his planned exit.

The match in which Malik scored three no-balls was notable, as such events often generate speculation, particularly in the high-stakes world of professional cricket.

“I would like to address and dismiss the recent rumors circulating about my playing position with Fortune Barishal. I had a thorough discussion with our captain, Tamim Iqbal, and we mutually planned the way forward. I had to leave Bangladesh for a pre-committed media engagement in Dubai,” he posted.

“I extend my best wishes to Fortune Barishal for their upcoming matches, and if needed, I am available to support them if needs be.”

Shoaib Malik’s post also included a video message from Fortune Barishal owner Mizanur Rahman, who dismissed any ‘match-fixing’ allegations involving the Pakistan cricketer.

“I deeply regret the rumor regarding Shoaib Malik. He is a great player. He gave us his best. So we should not make a ruckus about it,” Mizanur Rahman said in a video message.
