The group team captain, Alex Davies, is excited to see his team compete in a cup competition.
In the Abu Dhabi Counties Super Cup, Bears are joined by Team Abu Dhabi, Essex,
Nottinghamshire, Somerset, and Yorkshire. Team Abu Dhabi will play first on Friday at 2.15 p.m. GMT.
Davies is eager to watch the Bears demonstrate their T20 prowess in a competitive setting, especially since they won the North Group title the previous season.
“We’ve had a good training block now leading into this tournament,” said the wicket-keeper. “I think it just helps having a competitive tournament against some of the county teams that we can really showcase our skills.
“In last year’s pre-season, we had a few T20s, but having an actual structured competition where there’s something on the line will really help us work out where we are at the minute.”
He added: “We want to win every single game we play, but we’re still managing a few players workloads. We’ve got to get a lot of cricket through everyone in the squad because you never know who’s going to play during the season and who’s going to end up having those winning runs in a final.”
“Everyone’s got a chance to showcase their skills, and we’re definitely trying to win every game.”
The Tolerance Oval will host all the Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports Hub games, only a short stroll from the magnificent Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium. When Ireland defeated Afghanistan by six wickets to win their first Test match, the ground became the 122nd Test cricket venue in the world.
Bears play Team Abu Dhabi on Sunday (10 a.m. BST), and the winner advances to Sunday’s Finals Day, which is determined by the standings.
“They’re smallish pitches, good wickets, but it can be very windy,” concluded the 29-year-old. “It also could be a lot of hitting from one end and then being clever and smart from the other.”
“We’re not sure on Team Abu Dhabi’s line-up as I think a few county players that are here are going to turn out for them. We’ve obviously got quite a big squad out here, so Che Simmons and Kai Smith will play for them to get some valuable cricket time.”
“Yorkshire are always a good white ball team, white ball squad and we’ve had some good battles over the last couple of years. We’re really looking forward to it and we’re grateful for the Club putting this on.”
Warwickshire left for the Middle East yesterday to consolidate their diligent winter preparations.
The group, led by Mark Robinson, took a plane to Dubai before moving south this morning to Abu Dhabi, where they will make their home for the next twelve days.
Twenty-one players have traveled with the management and coaching team of Gavin Larsen, Robinson, Ian Westwood, Stuart Barnes, Tony Frost, Chris Cole, Kate Green, Rebecca MacLaren, and Paul Greetham.
With their new teammates, Pace recruits Richard Gleeson and George Garton have left the PSL, while Hassan Ali and Dan Mousley are still there. Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali will keep working to prepare for a demanding winter at Edgbaston.
Club Captain Alex Davies will take on his first managerial role during the tour, which blends fitness with games.
Before Finals Day at the end of the week, the Bears will compete in a three-day T20 festival on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday against Team Abu Dhabi and Yorkshire. Every game will occur at the Zayed Cricket Academy complex and be aired on YouTube.
In the second half, the team will focus on red after spending the first week concentrating on white balls. Information regarding the two-day friendly between Yorkshire and Warwickshire will be verified later.
When the tour was booked, First Team Coach Mark Robinson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to sort all the arrangements.”
“While we have fantastic facilities at Edgbaston, having the reassurance of excellent weather conditions just a few weeks before the season is beneficial.”
“We visited Cape Town last year and we saw first-hand at the start of the season the importance of getting overs into the bowler’s legs and time in the middle for the batters.”
“I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Abu Dhabi and I know we’ll have excellent facilities available as well as top opposition. I’m looking forward to testing ourselves after a long winter.”
