Twelve of India’s fifteen-man roster were used in their successful 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. Here’s a look at how each Player performed throughout the tournament.
This victory marked India’s second T20 World Cup title, their first since the inaugural edition in 2007. They defeated South Africa in the championship match to snap an 11-year losing streak in international competitions. Below are Wisden’s player ratings for the 12 Indian players featured during the game.
257 runs @ 36.71; SR: 156.70
India’s captain drove their batting throughout the tournament, consistently attacking the opposition. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer, trailing only Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz (281). During the Super Eights, Rohit scored one of the most memorable performances of the competition with 92 runs off 41 balls against Australia.
151 runs @ 18.87; SR: 112.68
Kohli struggled for form leading up to the final. However, backed by Rohit, he delivered in the championship match, top-scoring with a crucial 76 from 59 balls. Announcing his retirement from T20Is after the game, Kohli signed off his T20I career on a high note.
171 runs @ 24.72; SR: 127.61
Returning from injury, Pant brought aggressive intent, particularly during the USA leg of the tournament. His performance against Pakistan, 42 off 31 balls, was outstanding. Although his batting dipped towards the latter stages, Pant’s wicketkeeping was consistently sharp throughout the competition.
199 runs @ 28.42; SR: 135.37
The second-highest run scorer in India, Suryakumar, adjusted well to new circumstances. Despite some low scores, he contributed vital fifties against the USA and Afghanistan, along with an impactful 31 off 16 against Australia and 47 off 36 in the semi-final. His incredible catch to get rid of David Miller in the championship match was pivotal.
133 runs @ 22.16; SR: 114.65
Dube, selected for his ability to take on spin, had a modest tournament but made valuable contributions. His quick-fire 27 from 16 balls in the final was his most crucial innings, helping India set a competitive total.
92 runs @ 23; SR: 139.39
Nine wickets @ 19.22; ER: 7.86
Axar was crucial in both batting and bowling. His all-round performance against Pakistan—20 off 18 balls and 1-11—helped India defend their lowest-ever T20I total. A standout 47 from 31 balls in the final rescued India from a tricky situation, and his bowling on a slow Georgetown pitch in the semi-final was crucial to India’s success.
144 runs @ 48; SR: 151.57
11 wickets @ 17.36; ER: 7.64
Pandya’s aggressive cameos with the bat and crucial contributions with the ball were pivotal to India’s campaign. Because of his 50* off 27 against Bangladesh, he was named Player of the Match. At the same time, his finishing prowess in key matches, including the semi-final and final, proved invaluable. Defending 16 runs in the last over of the final secured India’s historic win.
35 runs @ 11.66; SR: 159.09
One wicket @ 106; ER: 7.57
Jadeja had a forgettable tournament, underperforming with both bat and ball. His only notable contribution was a quick-fire 17* off nine balls in the semi-final. It seems likely that this could be his last appearance in the format.
10 wickets @ 13.90; ER: 6.95
Kuldeep’s inclusion in the XI during the Super Eights stage significantly strengthened India’s bowling attack. He played pivotal roles in two key matches, claiming 2 for 24 against Australia and 3 for 19 in the semi-final against England. His performance in the final, however, was lackluster as he finished with 0 for 45.
15 wickets @ 8.26; ER: 4.17
Bumrah’s exceptional performance has solidified his place in Indian cricket history. Opposing teams struggled to counter him, and his statistics speak volumes. His decisive second spell of 1 for 6 in two overs during the final was instrumental in clinching the title for India. Named Player of the Tournament, Bumrah delivered one of the most outstanding performances ever in a global event.
17 wickets @ 12.64; ER: 7.16
As India’s second pacer, Arshdeep complemented Bumrah’s brilliance perfectly. The left-arm seamer consistently swung the ball both ways and maintained tight control throughout the tournament. He emerged as India’s highest wicket-taker and delivered an essential spell of 2 for 20 in the final, showcasing his ability in crucial moments.
One wicket @ 57; ER: 5.18
Although Siraj’s wicket tally does not reflect his overall performance, he bowled well in his matches. His exclusion after the group stage was more about India’s strategic shift to exploit spinning conditions rather than a reflection of his abilities.
