Lancashire, gearing up for the T20 Blast 2024, has made a significant addition to their squad by roping in Chris Green, an Australian all-rounder with a wealth of T20 experience. This strategic move is expected to bolster Lancashire’s performance in the upcoming tournament. The T20 Blast 2024, one of the most anticipated cricket tournaments, is set to commence on 30th May.

This year it promises to be even more exciting with the addition of new talents and the return of seasoned players. After Australian off-spinner, Nathan Lyon’s stint in England was cut short to only seven County Championship matches, with the seasoned campaigner having to miss out on the remainder of the tournament as well as the entirety of the T20 Blast,

Cricket Australia wanted to preserve him for the series Down Under when India toured Australia in November later this year. Lancashire roped in Chris Green, another Australian, to fill the void. Although he made only a singular T20I appearance for Australia against India in the fourth T20I of the five-match T20I series, in which he couldn’t quite make a substantial impact, he has a wealth of T20 experience ingrained in him.

The bowling all-rounder has played 200 T20s, representing many franchises in T20 leagues all over the globe. He has played in leagues such as the Caribbean Premier League, the Big Bash League, and the Pakistan Super League, to name a few.

Green’s T20 statistics are nothing short of impressive, with 164 wickets in 200 games at an astonishingly remarkable economy of only 7.03, coupled with scoring 1285 runs in the 129 innings he’s had the opportunity to express himself with the bat.

His rise to prominence came when he was seen to be a handy resource with the new ball, and he has since grown more and more adept at mastering that particular skill. These numbers speak volumes about his capabilities, and they are sure to instill confidence in Lancashire fans. Mark Chilton.

Lancashire’s Director of Cricket Performance, revealed that after Cricket Australia withdrew Nathan Lyon from the white-ball format, he and Lancashire’s head coach, Dale Benkenstein, were determined to bring in an overseas replacement. Their goal was to find a player who could be available for both the group-stage blocks of the tournament, ensuring a seamless transition and maintaining coherence and fluidity within the team’s structure.

Chris Green’s addition to Lancashire is not just about his availability but also his all-round expertise. His ability to bowl across phases in a 20-over game, his explosive nature with the bat during the death, and the experience he gained leading the Sydney Thunder in the BBL last year all point to a potential game-changer for Lancashire. This is particularly exciting for the youngsters in the Lancashire setup, who stand to benefit from his experience.

His addition brings a sense of hope and optimism for the team’s performance in the upcoming tournament. Green’s excitement was palpable as he expressed his joy at joining Lancashire for the upcoming game. His eagerness to meet his new teammates and his anticipation for what they could achieve together was infectious. Having previously played in the T20 Blast,

representing Birmingham Bears in 2019 and Middlesex in 2021, Green was enthusiastic about making the Emirates Old Trafford his seasonal home for the first time.

“I am really pleased to be joining Lancashire for this year’s Vitality Blast and can’t wait to meet up with my new teammates next month. It’s a really strong squad at Lancashire and after speaking with Mark Chilton and Dale Benkenstein ahead of signing, I am really excited about what we can achieve together this summer. I have really enjoyed my previous experiences of playing in the Blast in England and I am looking forward to heading to Manchester and playing at Emirates Old Trafford for the first time,” Green remarked as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
