During the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine final between Islamabad United and Multan Sultans at Karachi’s National Bank Cricket Arena on Monday, all-rounder Imad Wasim was filmed smoking a cigarette in the dressing room.
After claiming five wickets in his spell, the 35-year-old returned to the dressing room and was seen smoking, with the video rapidly gaining viral status on social media.
Players smoking in the dressing room is not unprecedented; for example, in 2022, Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shahzad was reprimanded by match officials for a similar incident.
In a separate incident, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell was spotted using an e-cigarette in the dressing room during the ODI World Cup.
On a historical note, Imad Wasim made PSL history by becoming the first player to secure a five-wicket haul in a PSL final.
He started his spell spectacularly, claiming two wickets in his opening over by dismissing the in-form Yasir Khan and David Willey.
Imad continued to dominate, taking the wickets of Khushdil Shah, Johnson Charles, and Chris Jordan, cementing his place as the only player to achieve a five-wicket haul in a PSL final.
Meanwhile, Islamabad United has begun their pursuit of the 160-run target set by the Sultans.
In the final overs, Iftikhar Ahmed demonstrated his skill, finishing his brief innings with an impressive 32 runs from 20 balls, including three fours and three sixes.
Usman Khan, the tournament’s top run-scorer, contributed 57 runs from 40 balls, which established the foundation for the Sultans’ total.
The Islamabad United lineup features Colin Munro, Martin Guptill, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan (captain), Azam Khan (wicketkeeper), Haider Ali, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Naseem Shah, Hunain Shah, and Tymal Mills.
Multan Sultans’ lineup includes Mohammad Rizwan (captain and wicketkeeper), Yasir Khan, Usman Khan, Johnson Charles, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Chris Jordan, David Willey, Usama Mir, Mohammad Ali, and Abbas Afridi.
The ninth season of the PSL I ended at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.

On Monday, Islamabad United secured a thrilling two-wicket victory over Multan Sultans in the final of the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.
With this win, Islamabad United achieved their third PSL title, previously winning in 2016 and 2018. They are the first team to accomplish this feat three times.
As PSL 9 wrapped up, we reviewed the standout individual performances. Players such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Usama Mir, Saim Ayub, and others saw impressive performances.
Regarding batting, it was no surprise that Babar Azam, the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, led the tournament in run-scoring.

Usman Khan: 430 runs in 7 innings
Mohammad Rizwan: 407 runs in 12 innings
Rassie van der Dussen: 364 runs in 7 innings
Saim Ayub: 345 runs in 11 innings
Multan Sultans’ bowlers Usama Mir and Mohammad Ali claimed the top two positions on the bowling front.
Usama Mir: 23 wickets in 12 innings
Mohammad Ali: 18 wickets in 12 innings
Abrar Ahmed: 16 wickets in 10 innings
Akeal Hosein: 15 wickets in 10 innings
Naseem Shah: 15 wickets in 11 innings
On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi’s dynamic opener, Saim Ayub, led the chart for most sixes. The left-handed batsman was a key player for Zalmi this season.
