The 17th match of HBL Pakistan Super League 9, featuring Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars, was abandoned on Saturday due to continuous rain and a soggy outfield at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi.

The PSL’s Pindi leg was set to start with a doubleheader on Saturday. In the first match, Zalmi, positioned third in the standings, and Qalandars, in sixth place, each received one point as the game was called off.

The second match of the day was scheduled to feature the home team, Islamabad United, against the Quetta Gladiators, with the first ball expected to be bowled at 7 PM.

Due to persistent heavy rain, the match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi was canceled, with each team receiving one point.

Both teams were unable to reach the stadium due to the persistent rain, which had delayed their scheduled travel from the hotel to the ground at 4:30 PM.

As a result, each team received one point.

The planned doubleheader for Saturday at Pindi Cricket Stadium was entirely washed out. Earlier, the match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi was also canceled due to heavy rain, with each team being awarded one point. The ongoing downpours in Rawalpindi and Islamabad led to severe waterlogging at the stadium.

The first day of the Pindi leg of HBL PSL 9 was entirely washed out. The 18th match of the tournament, featuring Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators, was canceled due to rain. This was followed by the abandonment of the game between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi, which was also scheduled at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United, currently occupying the second and fourth positions on the points table, each earned one point after the second match of the doubleheader was canceled due to rain, just an hour before it was set to begin.

On Sunday, Karachi Kings will take on the league leaders, Multan Sultans, at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. Meanwhile, PSL 9 action will resume in Rawalpindi on March 4, with Islamabad United hosting Peshawar Zalmi.

Karachi Kings’ fast bowler Hasan Ali conveyed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome the table-topping Multan Sultans in their HBL PSL 9 match scheduled for tomorrow, March 3.

During a media interaction at the Karachi Kings’ practice session, Hasan Ali reviewed his team’s performance throughout the tournament.

“We played good cricket overall. Although we lost two matches, those were close matches and it is positive that we fought hard in those games,” said the fast bowler.

“Multan Sultans is a good team and they are on the top of the table. But, our team is motivated and we are looking forward to defeating them tomorrow,” he added.

Hasan Ali also provided an update on the Karachi Kings players who have been sidelined due to a viral infection.

“Unfortunately, some of our players were unwell due to the viral infection, but the good news is that they are all fine now and some of them also took part in the practice session,” he stated.

The seasoned pace bowler also discussed his goals and desire to return to Pakistan’s T20I team.

“I want to represent Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This is an important tournament for me to get there,” the 29-year-old pacer said.

“I want to get the selector’s attention with my performance in this tournament and make a return to the national T20I team for the upcoming T20 series as well as the World Cup.”
