The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been a significant part of Pakistan’s cricket landscape since its inception in February 2016. Featuring city-based franchise teams, the league has symbolized the country’s deep passion for the sport, bringing together local and international talent.
Over the years, the PSL has experienced substantial growth in value and popularity, making significant contributions to the global cricket landscape. The league operates under a unique single-entity model, where investors own and control each franchise, ensuring a more streamlined approach to management and operations.
Teams compete in a double round-robin format during the group stage, with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. The league has seen nine successful seasons, with Islamabad United emerging as the most successful team, having claimed the title three times. In a historic achievement, Lahore Qalandars became the first team to successfully defend its title after winning in the 2023 season.
The establishment of the PSL in 2015 by the Pakistan Cricket Board was a significant milestone for the sport in the country. By creating a platform for local and international players to showcase their skills and fostering healthy competition, the PSL has contributed immensely to the development and growth of cricket in Pakistan.
