Multan Sultans delivered a commanding performance in Qualifier 1 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024, overpowering Peshawar Zalmi by seven wickets to secure their place in the grand finale. The high-stakes match took place on Thursday, March 14th, at Karachi’s National Stadium. The Sultans skillfully chased down Zalmi’s subpar total of 146/7 within just 18.3 overs, showcasing a masterful display of controlled aggression.
Peshawar Zalmi’s innings were primarily held together by captain Babar Azam, who scored 46 runs off 42 balls, including five boundaries. Mohammad Haris (22) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (24) also contributed valuable runs. However, the Sultans’ disciplined bowling attack, led by Chris Jordan and Usama Mir, who claimed two wickets each, prevented Zalmi from posting a more challenging total.
In response, Multan Sultans demonstrated a clinical batting display, with Yasir Khan stealing the show. The opener struck a well-paced half-century, scoring 54 runs off 37 balls, comprising seven fours and one six. Usman Khan also provided vital support with an unbeaten 36. The Sultans’ dominating performance resulted in their fourth consecutive PSL final appearance.
Usman Khan’s valuable contribution of 36 runs and Iftikhar Ahmed’s quickfire cameo of 22 runs from just eight balls played pivotal roles in the Multan Sultans’ successful run chase. Despite Mehran Mumtaz, Aamer Jamal, and Salman Irshad claiming a wicket each, their efforts proved futile as the Sultans romped to a comfortable victory.
As the Pakistan Super League 2024 unfolds, let’s look at the current top performers in the tournament.
