On Tuesday, Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), committed to implementing measures to elevate the Pakistan cricket team into a formidable force.
ISLAMABAD (APP—UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News—5th Mar 2024): On Tuesday, PCB Chairman Mohsin Raza Naqvi vowed to undertake initiatives to transform the Pakistan cricket team into a formidable powerhouse.
In a meeting with Pakistani players at a local hotel during the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), Naqvi emphasized that unity is crucial for achieving success on the field.
He stated that team selection would be exclusively merit-based, ensuring that only those players who perform well would secure their spots in the national squad.
“Players who are performing on the field are our stars. We stand with them and will fully back them,” he added.
He emphasized the critical need to assemble a unified playing eleven free from political influences or external pressures. This approach is essential to ensure that the team can effectively represent Pakistan with a singular focus on excellence and performance. By removing political considerations from team selection and management, the goal is to foster a cohesive unit where selection is based solely on merit and skill.
“We have only one mission and that is to see our team winning. This is only possible when we all come together on one mission and fight like a unit,” he said.
He urged players to prioritize the national team above all else and view financial gain as a secondary concern. He also mentioned that players’ central contracts would be enhanced, “The focus will be on the fitness of the players for team selection”, he said.
He said winning or losing was part of the game, but putting up a fight was necessary.
He also assured players that he would be available anytime to facilitate them.”I am here for you. You can contact me whenever you want. My doors are always opened for you”, he said.
The PCB Chairman stated that comprehensive measures would be implemented to significantly enhance the cricket academy’s performance. This includes upgrading training facilities, investing in advanced coaching techniques, and recruiting top-notch instructors. Focusing on these areas aims to provide aspiring cricketers with the best possible environment and resources to develop their skills and reach their full potential.
“The board will invest as much money as it can on players’ development and performance.”
He urged players to compete with determination, highlighting the importance of competitive spirit over simply focusing on results.
He affirmed his support for players who showcase outstanding abilities on the field, recognizing their potential as future stars for Pakistan. He urged athletes to place the nation’s interests above personal benefits and pledged enhancements to central contracts, alongside a renewed emphasis on fitness for team selection.
Looking to the future, Naqvi outlined the forthcoming schedule, which includes New Zealand’s tour of Pakistan and Pakistan’s tours to England, Ireland, and the United States. He also revealed plans for an intensive training camp at Kakul to boost player performance and ensure readiness for upcoming challenges.
Naqvi assured players of his ongoing support and openness, encouraging them to contact him whenever they need help. He detailed the PCB’s dedication to enhancing cricket academies and investing in player well-being, including plans to establish a five-star hotel near major cricket stadiums in Lahore and Karachi.
In summary, Naqvi reaffirmed the continued efforts to assemble a highly skilled coaching team, guaranteeing the selection of the most qualified candidates for these positions. PCB Chief Selector Wahab Riaz, Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer, and other senior officials attended the meeting, underscoring a collaborative effort to advance Pakistani cricket to new levels of excellence.
