The former Pakistan captain believes that Islamabad United, with just two wins from five matches, has encountered difficulties due to strategic missteps.
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 1st, 2024) Former Pakistan captain Misbahul Haq has expressed concerns about Islamabad United’s use of their resources, speedy bowler Naseem Shah, during the current Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9.
Haq criticized the team for failing to utilize Naseem Shah fully and noted several shortcomings in their bowling strategy. He attributed Islamabad United’s challenges to strategic misjudgments, including their record of only two victories in five matches.
Islamabad United, having won only two out of five games, have faced setbacks due to strategic flaws, according to Haq.
In their latest match against the Karachi Kings on Wednesday, Islamabad United struggled to control their opponents, allowing them to amass 164 runs on a slow pitch.
Despite captain Imad Wasim completing his quota of overs, Shadab Khan and Agha Salman did not contribute with the ball.
Haq expressed his dissatisfaction on a local sports channel and voiced his concerns about the team’s performance.”They are not using their resources properly in the bowling department.”
United, he said, did not know where and how to use Naaeem Shah. They gave the last over to young Hunain Shah, who performed well.”
He also criticized the spinners for failing to capitalize on favorable conditions during their spells.
He remarked that Islamabad United needed to understand better how and when to deploy Naseem Shah. “These choices could trouble Islamabad United in crucial moments.”
Although Islamabad United initially appeared poised for a total of around 140 runs, they ultimately reached 165, thanks mainly to the strong performance of their openers.
Nevertheless, Haq cautioned that these issues could pose significant challenges for Islamabad United in crucial matches.
In an exhilarating clash during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine, the Quetta Gladiators clinched a decisive 5-wicket victory over the Karachi Kings at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.
KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 1st Mar 2024) In a gripping encounter of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine, the Quetta Gladiators clinched a decisive 5-wicket victory over the Karachi Kings at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.
The standout performance came from West Indies star Sherfane Rutherford, who delivered a match-winning innings on the final ball of the 16th game of the PSL.
Facing a challenging situation at 89 for five, Rutherford and Akeal Hosein took charge of the chase. Their pivotal 80-run partnership for the fourth wicket proved instrumental. Rutherford dazzled with a rapid 31-ball 58, featuring six sixes and a boundary, while Hosein contributed a crucial 22 off 17 balls.
This triumph represents Quetta Gladiators’ fourth tournament win, whereas the Karachi Kings experienced their third defeat in five matches.
Jason Roy and Saud Shakeel set the stage for Quetta’s chase with a robust 57-run opening stand. However, a sudden collapse in the middle overs, with Rilee Rossouw’s side losing wickets rapidly, threatened their progress.
Despite these challenges, Rutherford’s explosive performance in the final over, where he blasted 15 runs off Anwar Ali’s delivery, secured the win for Quetta.
Karachi Kings faced difficulties earlier in the game after their captain, Shan Masood, was dismissed for a duck in the opening over. Nevertheless, an aggressive partnership between James Vince and Tim Seifert provided some momentum. Vince struck a brisk 37 off 25 balls, while Seifert added a rapid 21 from just 11 deliveries.
Despite this, Quetta’s Usman Tariq shifted the momentum by claiming two crucial wickets in his first over. Abrar Ahmed also played a vital role with the ball, finishing with impressive figures of 3/31.
Even though veteran all-rounder Anwar Ali made a valiant effort with an unbeaten 25 off 14 balls, Karachi Kings could only reach 165/8 in their allotted overs.
Ultimately, Quetta Gladiators’ well-rounded performance clinched the victory, with Rutherford’s explosive innings being the standout moment of the match. Rutherford was named Player of the Match for his remarkable contribution.

However, the relentless rain that has been pouring over Karachi derailed their plans. Despite arriving in the city on Wednesday, the team opted not to hold a practice session on Thursday.
KARACHI, (APP—UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News—1st Mar 2024): The Multan Sultans, a key franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), had planned a vital practice session for Friday. Unfortunately, the persistent rain that has drenched Karachi disrupted their preparations. Originally scheduled for Friday evening at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, the Multan Sultans’ practice session was abruptly canceled due to severe weather conditions. As a result, the team has had to postpone its training to Saturday.
The Multan Sultans are leading the points table with 10 points from six matches, which puts them in an advantageous position in the current tournament.
Nevertheless, their quest for continued success is temporarily stalled as Karachi prepares for ongoing rainfall, which, according to the Meteorological Department, is expected to persist until Saturday night.
