Current star all-rounder Imad Wasim is enthusiastic about continuing his career for another five years, following his leadership of Islamabad United to victory in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine title on Monday in Karachi.
Islamabad United secured their third PSL title by defeating Multan Sultans by two wickets in a thrilling final. With previous wins in 2016 and 2018, they have established themselves as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
“I wasn’t feeling it will be my best event tournament but wanted to make an impact but glad it went so well for me,” Imad said after the match.
“I’ve done it on quite a few occasion in batting but to pick fifer in a final and to stay in during a crucial game, it was a new experience but I have learned from it that we should have finished the game earlier rather than taking it down the wire, glad Hunain finished it.
“I think I’m happy playing cricket, I’m fit and trying to contribute as much as possible. I’ve four-five years of cricket left in me.”
The electrifying match came to a dramatic conclusion on the last ball when Hunain Shah, with just one run needed for victory, took his turn at bat. The young Player expertly identified a gap at point and delivered a deft shot, sending the ball to the boundary for the winning four runs.
Earlier in the match, the Sultans set a target of 159-9 in their 20 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat.
Usman Khan played a vital role with a solid 57 off 40 balls, supported by captain Mohammad Rizwan’s 26.
Despite this strong start, the Sultans suffered a dramatic collapse, losing five wickets for 13 runs and falling to 127-9.
Imad Wasim shone with the ball, delivering an impressive five wickets for 23 runs, while Naseem Shah added 3 for 32 runs.
Iftikhar Ahmed revitalized Multan’s innings with a dynamic unbeaten 32 off 20 balls, featuring three sixes and as many fours, including 31 runs in the final two overs.
Islamabad United also faced a setback, dropping from 121-4 to 129-7. However, Imad Wasim stayed composed under pressure, contributing 19 runs off 17 balls to guide his team to victory.
For the champions, Martin Guptill was the standout performer with a top score of 50 off 32 balls, including three sixes and four boundaries. Azam Khan also made a significant contribution with 30 runs from 22 balls, featuring one six and four fours.
