MS just Kicked Bottle out of the Park’ – Subramaniam MS Dhoni’s Calm Facade Badrinath Reveals a Rare Outburst – Indian Premier League

“We lost wickets in a hurry, and we ended up losing the match,” said Badrinath.

MS Dhoni, known as ‘Captain Cool,’ is renowned for maintaining calm under pressure. As the captain of the Indian cricket team for nearly a decade and the leader of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for 14 years, Dhoni’s composure has been instrumental in guiding his teams through challenging situations. However, former Indian cricketer and CSK player Subramaniam Badrinath unveiled a rarely-seen side of Dhoni’s personality.

During a crucial match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Dhoni’s calm exterior momentarily gave way to frustration due to an unexpected batting collapse. Recalling the incident, Badrinath recounted a game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai, where CSK was chasing a seemingly manageable target of around 110 runs. The situation worsened as the CSK batters lost their wickets to reckless shots. Badrinath admitted to getting dismissed by Anil Kumble while attempting a lap shot. As the players returned to the dressing room, Dhoni’s irritation became evident as he kicked a water bottle in response to the team’s performance. This rare display of emotion highlighted the passion and competitiveness that underlies Dhoni’s typically unflappable exterior.

“In this match against RCB in Chennai, we were chasing 110 odd. We lost wickets in a hurry, and we ended up losing the match. It was one of those matches where we couldn’t get 110 against RCB in Chepauk,” Badrinath said as quoted by India Today.

“I got out to a lap shot against Anil Kumble. I got myself LBW. He was coming inside the dressing room (MS Dhoni) and I was standing right there and there was a small water bottle in front of me and MS just kicked it out of the park, and I was oh my god! We were all trying to avoid eye contact with him in that dressing room,” he added.

Since its inception, MS Dhoni, an indispensable figure in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise, has left an indelible mark on the team and the Indian Premier League (IPL). As the team’s captain for over a decade, Dhoni’s leadership was instrumental in securing five IPL titles for CSK. However, in 2024, the 43-year-old decided to step down from his role as captain, passing the torch to the young and talented Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Although the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) did not reach the playoffs following MS Dhoni’s retirement from captaincy, his legacy remains a testament to his unparalleled leadership abilities and unwavering dedication to the sport. As one of India’s most celebrated cricket icons, Dhoni’s tenure with CSK and the Indian Premier League (IPL) exemplifies his exceptional on-field performance and innate capacity to inspire and guide teammates towards greatness. His impact on the sport goes beyond mere statistics, as his influence has fundamentally shaped the essence of the CSK franchise and the broader landscape of cricket in India.

Dhoni’s accomplishments as the long-standing captain of CSK resonate deeply within the IPL, having led the team to an impressive five championship titles. His visionary leadership and strategic insight transformed the franchise into a force to be reckoned with, instilling a culture of camaraderie, resilience, and excellence that persists today.

Even as Dhoni no longer serves as the captain of CSK, his legacy continues reverberating throughout the team and the broader cricketing community. As a symbolic figure in the IPL and an inspirational leader for aspiring cricketers, Dhoni’s contributions transcend his personal achievements, forever leaving an indelible mark on the sport and the countless players he has touched. The future of CSK and Indian cricket will undoubtedly be shaped by his enduring impact as aspiring leaders strive to emulate his remarkable example.
