‘I haven’t received any calls yet’ – Nitish Rana Discusses Prospects for Kolkata Knight Riders – Indian Premier League

Nitish Rana, the talented left-handed batsman, has been an integral part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) family for seven remarkable seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since joining the KKR squad in 2018, Rana has showcased his prowess as a dependable middle-order batsman, contributing significantly to the team’s performance.

Rana’s journey with KKR has seen him step up as a key player, particularly during the 2023 IPL season, when he took on the role of acting captain in Shreyas Iyer’s absence. His unwavering commitment to delivering consistent performances has solidified his integral role within the franchise. As the IPL continues to evolve and teams strategize for the future, Nitish Rana’s invaluable experience and unwavering commitment to KKR make him an indispensable asset for the team’s ongoing success.

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) prepares for its upcoming mega auction, Nitish Rana, the seasoned left-handed batsman, has revealed that he has not yet been contacted by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) management. The IPL Governing Council announced the retention rules last month, allowing teams to retain the services of up to six players each through direct retention or by using the Right To Match card during the auction.

Rana’s association with KKR dates back to the IPL 2018 auction when the franchise first acquired his services. Since his arrival, he has proven to be an indispensable asset to the team, bolstering their batting lineup with his reliable and steadfast performances that have consistently contributed to the team’s success. Before IPL 2022, Rana returned to the auction pool. Still, he was snapped up again by KKR, demonstrating the team’s faith in his abilities. Despite his long-standing association with the franchise and his continued contributions, Rana’s future with KKR remains to be determined as he awaits communication from the management regarding their plans for the upcoming mega auction.

While Nitish Rana has not received confirmation regarding his future with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the seasoned batsman has expressed his desire to continue representing the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise. KKR’s recent triumph in the IPL, clinching their third title after a decade-long wait, was a testament to the collective efforts of the team’s talented players.

With the IPL’s retention rules permitting each franchise to retain a maximum of six players, KKR must navigate the complex task of selecting which key players to secure ahead of the highly anticipated mega auction.

Rana’s aspirations to remain with KKR stem from his successful tenure with the team since 2018. The left-handed batsman has consistently performed for the franchise, contributing valuable runs and playing a pivotal role in the team’s overall performance. As the IPL prepares for its next phase, Nitish Rana’s commitment to KKR and his desire to continue contributing to the team’s future success reflect his dedication and passion for the game.

“I have been serving KKR for the past seven years. It’s not in my hands if I will be retained, it’s up to KKR management to decide,” Rana told TOI in an interview.

“I haven’t received any calls yet. I have scored runs for KKR every year, and if they consider me an asset, they will retain me. I want to play for KKR,” he added further.

Following his IPL debut with Mumbai Indians in 2016, Nitish Rana joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2018. He immediately impacted, scoring 304 runs in 15 matches. Over the next five seasons, Rana continued to showcase his batting prowess, tallying 344, 352, 383, 361, and 413 runs, respectively. However, his impressive streak was temporarily halted during the current season when he suffered an unfortunate finger injury in KKR’s opening match.

The injury he sustained during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad sidelined Rana for most of the season, limiting his appearances to just two games. Despite the setback, Rana remained determined to return to the field and contribute to his team’s success. His dedication and commitment to the sport are evident in his consistent performances over the years and his eagerness to rejoin KKR as soon as possible.

With an impressive track record of 2,199 runs in 90 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Nitish Rana has consistently contributed to the team’s success. Averaging 28.19 runs at a strike rate of 136.32, he has registered 14 half-centuries during his tenure with the franchise. Rana has also stepped up as a leader, taking the reins as acting captain during the 2023 season when Shreyas Iyer was sidelined due to injury.

As the IPL 2025 mega auction approaches, KKR faces the challenge of selecting its core group of players. With a maximum of six players allowed for retention and the Right to Match (RTM) options, the team must make strategic decisions to maintain a solid and balanced squad. Given Rana’s history with the team and his desire to continue representing KKR, whether the franchise will retain his services remains to be seen. Regardless of the outcome, Nitish Rana’s commitment to the game and contributions to KKR will undoubtedly impact the team’s legacy.
