Veteran South African player Dean Elgar and Australian all-rounder Mitch Marsh have climbed in the latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings update.
In the first MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings update of 2023, Indian batting legend Virat Kohli has made an impressive return to the top ten, climbing four places to ninth position with a rating of 761. Kohli’s performances in India’s recent Test match against South Africa, where he scored 38 and 76 runs, have earned him the distinction of being the highest-ranked Indian batter in the list.
South African cricket stalwart Dean Elgar made an impressive leap in the latest rankings, soaring 19 positions to secure the 17th spot with a notable rating of 680. This achievement comes as Elgar prepares to make his final Test appearance, cementing his status as a consistent and reliable performer for the Proteas throughout his career.

In a standout performance that set the stage for South Africa’s decisive innings victory over India, Dean Elgar’s remarkable 185-run innings not only earned him a 19-place surge in the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings but also secured the Proteas 12 valuable points in the World Test Championship standings.
During the Australia-Pakistan Boxing Day Test, Mitchell Marsh made the most significant leap in the batting rankings, moving up 16 places to 52nd with a rating of 504. His impressive display was mirrored by Mohammad Rizwan’s four-place rise, courtesy of his aggressive batting. Despite a subdued performance, Travis Head managed to maintain his top 10 position, sitting at 754 rating points.
As the competition remains fierce among the top-ranked batters, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson holds onto a narrow lead with a rating of 864, closely followed by England’s Joe Root at 859. Australia’s Steve Smith sits in third place with 820 rating points, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to climb the rankings during the upcoming Sydney Test.
In the Test bowling rankings, Jasprit Bumrah’s return to international cricket has seen him re-enter the top five with a rating of 767, narrowly trailing fellow Indian Ravindra Jadeja, who holds the fourth spot with 774 rating points. Marco Jansen’s remarkable performance has paid dividends, as the talented player made a notable three-place leap to secure the 22nd position in the rankings with an impressive rating of 618. At the same time, he also made significant strides in the all-rounder rankings, climbing five to 8th with a career-high rating of 268.
In the Australia-Pakistan series, emerging talent Aamer Jamal continued to make waves, leaping 17 spots to 57th in the bowling rankings. His contributions with both bat and ball saw him rise 34 to 68th in the all-rounder rankings, highlighting his potential as a valuable asset in the Pakistani lineup.
The latest T20I Player Rankings also witnessed notable movements, with several players making significant gains following the Bangladesh-New Zealand and UAE-Bangladesh series.
New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner made the most significant jump among bowlers, moving eight places to 8th (657) after his four-wicket haul in Mount Maunganui. Shoriful Islam’s strong showing resulted in a 32-spot leap. At the same time, Mustafizur Rahman climbed five places to 22nd (605), reflecting their impact in the shortest game format.
The T20I series between Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) unfolded as an exhilarating spectacle, captivating fans with a showcase of world-class cricket talent.
