In a strategic move, Bangladesh chose to bowl first in the match to take advantage of the pitch’s early help. Their bowler, Maruf Mridha, started well and dismissed two Indian batters early, putting Bangladesh in a good position.
However, Indian batsmen Adarsh Singh and captain Uday Saharan played well together, adding many runs to the scoreboard. Although Adarsh was eventually out, another Indian batter, Aravelly Avanish, played a quick inning and added more valuable runs for the team.
Bangladesh tried to restrict India’s scoring rate and managed to take more wickets, eventually limiting India to 251/7.
When Bangladesh started their batting, they looked confident and built good partnerships. India then took some quick wickets and disrupted the flow of runs. Although two Bangladesh batsmen, Ariful Islam and Mohammad Shihab James, put up an intense fight, India kept taking wickets and won the match.
England’s captain, Ben McKinney, won the toss and decided to field first, mirroring the West Indies’ strategy in their previous match against South Africa on the same ground. The move initially paid off, as Jamie Dunk started vital for Scotland, only to be halted by Farhan Ahmed’s two-wicket haul in the 10th over, leaving Scotland needing a recovery.
Owen Gould, Scotland’s skipper, rose to the challenge by coming in at number four and stabilizing the innings. Gould’s aggressive play, featuring six boundaries, including a six, allowed Scotland to surpass the 100-run mark. However, England’s vice-captain Luc Benkenstein and his fellow bowlers continued to make inroads, with Benkenstein eventually dismissing Gould for 48 runs.
By the 36th over, Scotland had lost six wickets, and England’s disciplined bowling made it difficult for them to recover. Scotland ultimately finished with a modest 174 runs, with Farhan and Benkenstein each claiming three wickets.
England’s Jadyn Denly and skipper McKinney kicked off their chase in the second innings with an excellent start. Balancing caution and aggression, they capitalized on scoring opportunities and accumulated 68 runs within the first Powerplay. McKinney took charge between overs 11-14, smashing five boundaries, including two sixes, to give England a significant advantage.
Although Denly was dismissed while attempting to pierce the covers in the 16th over, England was already within 69 runs of their target. McKinney’s aggressive play kept England on track until he was removed for 88 runs by Hegde. However, vice-captain Benkenstein and Hamza Shaikh finished the job in the 27th over, securing England’s comfortable victory.
Pakistan’s skipper, Saad Baig, emerged victorious in the crucial coin toss at East London. Pakistan’s opening batters exercised patience against Afghanistan’s new-ball duo, Bashir Ahmad and Allah Mohammad Ghanzafar. However, Khalil Ahmed’s introduction into the attack shifted the momentum in Afghanistan’s favor. The dismissals of Shamyl Hossain (17) and Azan Awais (5) served as critical breakthroughs, effectively shattering the opposing team’s momentum and setting the stage for a favorable outcome in East London.
In response, Captain Baig launched a counteroffensive at number four, targeting Afghanistan’s spin bowlers and smashing four impressive sixes at the crease. Eventually, Ghanzafar bowled a brilliant delivery to clean up Baig in the 28th over, with Ahmed Hussain following suit shortly after. Pakistan’s scoring rate temporarily slowed over the next few overs until Shahzaib Khan and Muhammad Riazullah initiated an aggressive approach to propel their team back into contention.
The pair showcased their prowess in the second Powerplay, finishing it with a boundary and maintaining the momentum into the final stretch of the innings. Their partnership yielded 84 runs at a run-a-ball rate until Riazullah’s dismissal. Shahzaib’s unwavering aggression paid dividends for Pakistan as he reached his century in the 48th over, helping his team amass a substantial total with 84 runs scored in the last 10 overs.
Pakistan’s pace bowlers delivered an exceptional performance with the new ball. Amir Hassan and Ubaid Shah claimed the wickets of Wafiullah Tarakhil (0) and Jamshid Zadran (1), respectively, leaving Afghanistan at a precarious 2/2. Hassan Eisakhil and Sohail Khan Zurmati provided Afghanistan stability, striking six boundaries during the first Powerplay to maintain a run rate close to four. Ubaid struck again in the 10th over, securing Pakistan’s strong position in the game.
Disciplined bowling from Pakistan’s pacers ensured a regular stream of wickets. Ahmad Hassan cleaned up Zurmati with a well-executed slower delivery. At the same time, Mohammad Zeeshan’s accurate length caused the downfall of Afghanistan’s lower order, effectively dismantling their resistance. As a result, Afghanistan was skittled out for a mere 103 runs, handing Pakistan a convincing 181-run victory.
