As the cricketing world awaits the winner’s announcement, fans and experts alike are excited. The ICC Women’s Player of the Month award serves not only as a testament to the individual brilliance of these athletes but also as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers around the globe.

Annabel Sutherland (Australia)

229 runs and seven wickets in four matches

In an awe-inspiring display of skill and determination, Annabel Sutherland etched her name in cricket history during the one-off Test against South Africa. Her marathon double century propelled Australia to a commanding position in the match. It shattered records in the Women’s Test cricket arena.

Before the Test series, Sutherland had already made her mark in the ODI series, playing a pivotal role in Australia’s 2-1 triumph over South Africa. Her versatility as an all-rounder was on full display as she snared two crucial wickets and contributed valuable runs for her team.

However, the shift to the Test format allowed Sutherland to unleash her prodigious talent. After Australia opted to bowl first and skittled South Africa for a meager 76, Sutherland’s medium-fast bowling decimated the Proteas’ middle order, claiming the scalps of Sune Luus, Tazmin Brits, and Delmi Tucker. Little did the spectators know this was merely a prelude to an even more extraordinary feat.

Striding out to bat, Sutherland dominated the game with a blistering double-century, amassing 210 runs in a whirlwind innings. Her epic knock not only set a new record for the fastest double century in Women’s cricket, surpassing fellow Australian Karen Rolton’s effort of 306 balls but also catapulted. Annabel Sutherland’s extraordinary accomplishment of scoring a double century in Test cricket has propelled her into an exclusive club of just nine women who have achieved this remarkable feat. At the tender age of 22, she has also made history by becoming the second youngest double centurion in Test cricket, second only to the legendary Mithali Raj, who accomplished this feat at the age of 19.

Sutherland’s innings was eventually halted at 210, a mere three runs shy of Ellyse Perry’s 213\*, the highest score in Women’s Test cricket by an Australian. Her remarkable performance solidified her status as a rising star in cricket. It underscored Australia’s unyielding dominance in the sport.

Esha Oza (UAE)

249 runs and two wickets in six matches

Esha Oza, the ICC Women’s Associate Cricketer of the Year 2022, showcased her exceptional leadership and batting prowess during the UAE’s triumphant campaign in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Women’s Premier Cup. Leading from the front, Oza emerged as the highest run-scorer in the tournament, leaving an indelible mark on the competition.

The UAE skipper commenced the T20I tournament with a blistering 32-ball 36 against China, setting the tone for her team’s successful run. She continued her fine form in the subsequent match against Oman, smashing a scintillating 114* off just 69 balls – her third century in the shortest format – leaving spectators in awe of her batting masterclass.

In the following game against Japan, Oza played a calm and composed innings of 24*, guiding the UAE to a comfortable chase. Although she experienced a few setbacks in the next two matches, the 26-year-old remained unfazed, demonstrating her mental grit and resilience.

In the tournament final against Malaysia, Oza rose to the occasion, delivering a stellar performance under immense pressure. Her 51-ball 53, embellished with three boundaries and sixes apiece, steered the UAE to an imposing total of 105. Furthermore, Oza made her presence felt with the ball as well, claiming a crucial wicket to restrict Malaysia to 68/9, ensuring a convincing 37-run victory for her team in the summit clash.

Oza’s extraordinary all-around performance in the final earned her the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament accolades. Her exceptional leadership and consistency throughout the competition solidified her status as one of Associate Cricket’s most talented and influential players, inspiring a generation of aspiring women cricketers in the UAE and beyond.

Kavisha Egodage (UAE)

218 runs and eight wickets in six matches

During the successful UAE campaign in the ACC Women’s Premier Cup, Kavisha Egodage proved to be an essential partner for Esha Oza. Egodage not only finished as the second-highest run-scorer but also claimed the joint-fourth-highest number of wickets, showcasing her exceptional all-round abilities.

In the opening match against China, Egodage set the tone for her team with a brilliant all-round performance that earned her the Player of the Match award. Her fluent 61-ball 69* propelled the UAE to a commanding total of 155/1, and she followed it up with a probing spell of right-arm off-spin, dismantling China’s middle order with three crucial wickets.

Egodage’s consistency with the bat continued throughout the tournament, as she recorded valuable scores of 38, 34*, 26, and 21, providing solidity and stability to the UAE’s batting lineup. Her off-spin bowling proved a potent weapon, as she snared four wickets leading up to the final.

In the climactic finale, Egodage again rose to the occasion, playing a pivotal role with a well-crafted 30 runs and forging a formidable 84-run opening partnership with her skipper.

Moreover, she showcased her all-around skills by picking up a crucial wicket, further emphasizing her impact on the team’s success. At 26, Egodage’s stellar tournament performance contributed to UAE’s triumph. It underscored her potential as one of the brightest talents in Associate cricket.
