The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the final group of exceptional players shortlisted in three ICC Awards 2023 categories: the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year, the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, and the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.
Cricket fans worldwide can now vote for their favorite cricketers from 2023 in nine ICC Awards categories.
Two candidates from Australia and India are nominated for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. In 2023, these teams faced off in the ICC World Test Championship Final and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Final.
Nominees include:
Pat Cummins (Australia): The captain displayed excellent leadership skills and took 59 wickets in Tests and ODIs.
Travis Head (Australia): This all-rounder shone during trophy-winning moments, scoring almost 1700 runs across formats and claiming essential wickets.
Virat Kohli (India): This icon is vying for his third Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy after breaking records and becoming the Player of the Tournament in CWC23 with 2048 international runs.
Ravindra Jadeja (India): Took 66 wickets, more than any other player in 2023, and contributed 613 runs across formats for India.

The Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy shortlist for 2023 highlights the remarkable achievements of some of the most talented women in international cricket.
Nat Sciver-Brunt, the 2022 trophy winner, continues to showcase her dominance across formats, taking nine wickets and scoring 894 runs in 2023. Her exceptional batting average of 45.50 in T20Is and 131.00 in ODIs makes her a force to be reckoned with.
Chamari Athapaththu’s outstanding performance in 2023 earns her a well-deserved spot on the shortlist. As captain of Sri Lanka, Athapaththu led her team to multiple landmark series victories, scoring an impressive 885 runs in ODIs and T20Is. Her nomination in three categories for the ICC Awards 2023 is a testament to her exceptional skill and leadership.
Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner had an incredible year, claiming 58 wickets in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is – the highest number of wickets taken by any player in women’s international cricket in 2023. Gardner’s all-around brilliance earned her the Player of the Tournament award at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, and she made history as the first Player to win back-to-back ICC Women’s Player of the Month awards.
Another Australian standout, Beth Mooney, had a memorable year as the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket with 1040 runs. Her match-winning 74 not out in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final against South Africa cements her position among the sport’s top performers.
The ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year category includes two key players from Australia’s World Test Championship-winning campaign.
Usman Khawaja topped the Test run-scoring charts in 2023, amassing 1210 runs at an average of 52.60, with three centuries to his name. His pivotal performances in Australia’s historic WTC triumph and leading run-scorer title in the Ashes series make him a strong contender for the award.
Travis Head’s all-around talent is on full display, with 919 runs at an average of 41.77 in the most extended format. His unforgettable knock of 163 in the WTC Final against India at the Oval further solidifies his nomination.
These exceptional athletes continue to inspire fans and raise the bar for cricket performance on the global stage.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s remarkable performance in 2023 has solidified his position as the top-ranked Test bowler in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Bowler Rankings. His 41 wickets at an impressive average of 17.02 and a record-setting four five-wicket hauls in Tests make him a strong contender for the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award.
Joe Root, a previous recipient of the Test Cricketer of the Year award in 2021, continues to be a driving force behind England’s Test resurgence. Root’s consistent performance in 2023, with 787 runs in eight Tests and an average of 65.58, highlights his undeniable talent and contributions to the team’s success.
