Iconic Cricket Venue Hosts First WBBL Season in Six Years

Cricket Australia has released the schedule for this summer’s Women’s Big Bash League, kicking off its tenth edition on Sunday, October 27.

This season, the WBBL will feature 43 matches, including three finals, aligning with the reduced format of the men’s competition from last summer.

On Saturday, November 9, the Brisbane Heat and the reigning champion Adelaide Strikers will play a WBBL game at the Gabba for the first time in six years. In addition, Adelaide Oval, the SCG, and the MCG will host WBBL games as part of an extended “Stadium Series.”

The Strikers and Heat replay the WBBL championship at Adelaide Oval to kick off the campaign. Drummoyne Oval is home ground for the Sydney Thunder, who will play four games there in November.

On Saturday, November 23, the Perth Scorchers will face the Hobart Hurricanes at the WACA, coinciding with day two of Australia’s Test series opener against India at Perth Stadium.

The WBBL final is set for Sunday, December 1, following the AFL Women’s Grand Final. If the Big Bash clubs secure hosting rights for the final, they can nominate a home ground. However, Adelaide Oval may be unavailable for the Strikers due to preparations for the second Test between Australia and India starting Friday, November 6.

“By optimising the season to 43 games, we will deliver fans more marquee matches in big stadiums, an improved broadcast footprint and a more even spread of matches throughout the competition,” CA’s Head of Big Bash League Alistair Dobson said in a statement.

“Additionally, the launch of our WBBL|10 icon solidifies this season’s status as a historic milestone for both our competition and the women’s game globally.”
