Cricket Australia has unveiled the list of 20 players nominated for the Women’s and Men’s Big Bash League drafts. The women’s draft includes Indian celebrities Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, and Harmanpreet Kaur. At the same time, Shamar Joseph stands out in the men’s draft.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, all-rounder Deepti Sharma, and batter Jemimah Rodrigues have been named in the initial Women’s Big Bash League 10 Draft nominations.
On Monday, Cricket Australia released the first round of nominations for the WBBL and BBL. The initial list includes 10 players for each competition, and the draft is scheduled for September 1.
Shamar Joseph is ranked first among the 10 players selected for the Big Bash League in the men’s draft He aims to return to Australian shores after his standout performance in Brisbane, where he played a crucial role in the West Indies Test victory against Australia. Also featured are New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson, Pakistan’s Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf, and England’s Jason Roy.
The nominated players still need to sign pre-draft deals, but 14 of these 20 players are eligible for retention by their current teams. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who plays for the Melbourne Renegades, could be retained by the franchise. South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt, with whom she has won consecutive titles, may also be retained by the Adelaide Strikers.
However, player availability may challenge the BBL, as Pakistan has a Test series against the West Indies and a limited-overs series against Bangladesh later in 2024 and early 2025.

Steve Smith, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey re-signed with their respective Big Bash League teams for the 2024-25 season. Warner has confirmed he will be available for the entire season. At the same time, Smith, Labuschagne, and Carey have each secured multi-year contracts.
Australian internationals have re-signed with their Big Bash League clubs before the tournament’s 14th edition. Despite the 2024-25 BBL season overlapping with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australian Test players will have at least two weeks off after the New Year’s Test in Sydney.
Steve Smith (Sydney Sixers), Marnus Labuschagne (Brisbane Heat), and Alex Carey (Adelaide Strikers) each signed multi-year contracts. At the same time, David Warner committed to the entire season. Smith will remain with the Sixers for three more seasons, Carey has secured a four-year deal with the Strikers, and Warner, who briefly played for the Thunder and theIn the International League T20, the Dubai Capitals will not move this season.
Steve Smith and David Warner will be playing in the Big Bash League 2024-25 for their respective Sydney teams. Ahead of the tournament’s fourteenth season, Australian internationals have re-signed with their respective Big Bash League teams. Even though the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the BBL 2024–25 season coincide, the Australian Test players will have at least two weeks off after the conclusion of the Sydney New Year’s Test. Three players have inked multi-year contracts: Alex Carey (Adelaide Strikers), Marnus Labuschagne (Brisbane Heat), and Steve Smith (Sydney Sixers). David Warner has committed for the entire season at the same time.
Carey has agreed to stay with the Strikers for an additional four seasons, while Smith has re-signed with the Sixers for three more seasons. After retiring from Test cricket after the Pakistan series, Warner played a few games for the Thunder and then for the Dubai Capitals in the International League T20. That being said, Warner is staying put this year.
“I’ve always been part of the Thunder. I really liked the environment last year (at the Thunder), I gelled back with the boys and I just love playing cricket,” Warner said on re-signing with the Thunder. Warner will reunite with his former opening partner for Australia, Cameron Bancroft at the top of the order for Thunder with Sam Billings, Ollie Davies, Jason Sangha and Sam Konstas in the middle of the order.
Steve Smith, who captained the Washington Freedom to victory in the Major League Cricket, has performed impressively as an opener. He aims to broaden his T20 experience and make a strong case for the IPL auction. Smith has already stated his intention to enter the auction, hoping his successes in the MLC and BBL will bolster his prospects.
Meanwhile, Marnus Labuschagne has been a standout all-rounder for the Brisbane Heat. His solid performances for Glamorgan in the T20 Blast have set high expectations for continued success in the BBL.
The 14th edition of the Big Bash League is set to run from December 15 to January 27
