Indian-born cricket player Nikhil Chaudhary made headlines recently for his outstanding Big Bash League (BBL) performance. Playing for the Hobart Hurricanes, Chaudhary played a pivotal role in securing a victory by taking two crucial wickets against the Sydney Thunder.

Originally from New Delhi, Chaudhary’s family relocated to Punjab during his early years. His aggressive batting style emerged early on, leading him to rise through the ranks and play for Punjab under the guidance of Indian cricket legend Harbhajan Singh.

In addition to his domestic success, Chaudhary represented India at the U-19 level. His journey to Australia is a fascinating tale that adds depth to his cricketing career.

Nikhil’s life changed as he travelled to Australia for a holiday where the borders had shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But as the restrictions eased, he found a new place to call home. “It was totally different to India and I like the culture here,” he said. “I wanted to pursue my cricket in Australia. I just wanted a change and to grow as a person,” Chaudhary told ESPNCricinfo.

Fully embracing Australian culture, Chaudhary chose to advance his cricket career in Australia. At the Northern Suburbs Cricket Club, he made a notable impact, partly thanks to a recommendation from his coach, former Australian cricketer James Hopes, who also had connections with the Hobart Hurricanes. This endorsement played a crucial role in Chaudhary securing his BBL contract.

Chaudhary’s talent is evident, as demonstrated by his impressive performance against Pakistan’s express pacer, Haris Rauf of the Melbourne Stars. He scored 32 runs off 16 balls, crucially helping the Hurricanes achieve a competitive total in their innings.

Apart from his batting, Chaudhary has demonstrated his skill with the ball. In a recent match against the Sydney Thunder, he claimed two wickets, marking the beginning of his promising bowling career in the BBL.

Bill Was $1,00,000 Last Night Alone’: Sehwag on Why He Rejected BBL and Sky Sport ‘They Can’t Afford me’

Batting legend Virender Sehwag recently disclosed that he was once allowed to join the Big Bash League (BBL) after being dropped from the Indian national team. Despite the chance to play in one of the most prominent T20 leagues, Sehwag declined the offer, citing inadequate financial compensation as the primary reason.

Sehwag shared this revelation during a conversation with Australian cricketing icon Adam Gilchrist, who had inquired about the prospects for Indian cricketers participating in international leagues outside the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sehwag responded by downplaying the likelihood of such ventures for Indian players. He emphasized that the financial offer from the BBL was not compelling enough, comparing it to the amount he typically spends on vacations.

His comments reflect the significant disparity in compensation between the IPL and other T20 leagues, underscoring the dominant financial appeal of the IPL for Indian cricketers.

“No! Why? No need. We are rich people, we don’t go to poor countries,” quipped Sehwag on Club Prairie Fire podcast on YouTube.

“I still remember that when I retired from the Indian team, not retired but dropped and was playing IPL, I received an offer to participate in Big Bash. I said that okay how much money you are offering? They said some $100,000. I replied I can spend that much that much money on my holidays,” he added.

Gilchrist chimed in saying their tequila bill equivalent to the BBL offer before Sehwag replied, “Absolutely! Last night’s bill was more than $100,000.”

Sehwag stated that he would only consider spending a month abroad playing in a cricket league if the offer was in the millions of dollars.

“Going out for one month playing Big bash or The Hundred, where you get only that $100,000, maybe $200,000. If you talk about millions, yes then I’m interested otherwise no,” he added.

He then recounted an intriguing episode involving a British media conglomerate that invited him to join their panel. The opportunity seemed promising, as it would have allowed Sehwag to contribute his insights and expertise to a broader audience.

However, the offer ultimately fell through. The reason for this was Sehwag’s disclosure of his remuneration requirements, which apparently needed to align with the conglomerate’s budget or expectations. This incident highlights the often challenging negotiations that high-profile personalities like Sehwag face when balancing their market value with potential opportunities in the media industry.

“So once once I got a call from Sky Sports that ‘We’ll love to have you in in our panel.’ I said ‘You can’t afford me’. But they said, ‘No, give me your price’. I said ‘You can’t afford me but they said ‘Please give us the price’. Then I said okay ‘£10,000 a day’ and they said, ‘Yes you’re right we can’t’”.
