Chris Lynn, the all-time leading run-scorer in Big Bash League history, has officially signed on to play the entire 2024/25 season with the Adelaide Strikers. This move represents a significant boost for the South Australian franchise, as Lynn brings a wealth of experience and an exceptional track record to the team.
The 34-year-old Queenslander, who has represented Australia in four ODIs and 18 T20Is, has agreed to a one-year deal with the Strikers, including availability for the crucial finals. This commitment is particularly significant given Lynn’s past unavailability for finals due to his prior commitments with the Gulf Giants in the UAE’s ILT20 league.
Lynn’s tenure with the Strikers began in the 2022/23 season after an impressive 11-year stint with the Brisbane Heat. During his time with the Strikers, he has amassed 720 runs at an outstanding average of 48.00 and a remarkable strike rate of 150.00 across 18 matches. His standout performances last season included three half-centuries, with a notable unbeaten 83 off 42 balls during the New Year’s Eve match against the Melbourne Stars at Adelaide Oval.
The Strikers’ absence of Lynn was keenly felt in the previous two BBL seasons. His unavailability for the finals contributed to the team’s loss to the eventual champions, Brisbane Heat, by 54 runs in a crucial Challenger match last summer. The Strikers hope Lynn’s return will provide the stability and firepower needed to propel them to the competition’s top.
Following his June release from the Gulf Giants, Lynn’s full-season commitment to the Strikers marks a significant moment for the team as it aims to reclaim its place as a dominant force in the BBL.
“I can’t wait to get back with the lads and play in front of our amazing Strikers fans at Adelaide Oval,” Lynn said in a statement.
“I’m confident we can progress even further this season.”
Lynn’s 3,725 career runs stand as the highest in Big Bash League history, with his staggering 208 sixes setting a benchmark that no other player has come close to challenging.
“We’re thrilled to have Chris returning for a third season,” Strikers Interim General Manager Shaun Williams said in a statement.
“While his batting exploits speak for themselves, the experience and leadership he brings to our playing group and the assistance he provides for younger players as well as our coaching staff is equally invaluable.
“Chris is a box office attraction and is a vital part of a versatile and talented squad that we believe will again challenge for the title in BBL|14.”
The Adelaide Strikers, eager to end their BBL title drought since their championship win 2018, will begin their quest for another trophy on Tuesday, December 17. Their opening match sees them face the Sydney Thunder at Canberra’s Manuka Oval, a critical early-season test. With a strong roster headlined by Chris Lynn, the Strikers aim to build momentum from the outset and establish themselves as serious contenders in the 2024/25 Big Bash League season. This matchup will set the tone for their title ambitions as they look to return to the top of the competition.
