In a spectacular display of power hitting, Josh Brown, the Brisbane Heat opener, delivered a breathtaking performance against the Adelaide Strikers in the Challenger. Brown had one of the greatest innings in BBL history, hitting a record 12 sixes using a bat he manufactured himself.
A bat-maker by profession, the 30-year-old right-hander dismantled the Strikers’ formidable attack, leading the Heat to a dominant position with a total of 7-214 at the halfway mark. Brown’s maiden century came in just 41 balls, tying Glenn Maxwell for the second-fastest in BBL history and only trailing Craig Simmons’ record.
Brown’s 12 sixes set a new record for the Third place went to Aaron Hardie, who scored 334 runs at an average of 37.11. ost in a single BBL innings, surpassing previous benchmarks set by Chris Lynn, Chris Gayle, and Simmons. His innings of 140 runs from 57 balls is the third-highest individual score in BBL history. However, his quest for a 13th six ended when his shot was caught by Strikers’ wicketkeeper Harry Nielsen.
“They just kept missing so I just kept hitting it. it just makes me feel so happy to be able to do that in front of my family, I know it makes them proud and it makes me feel proud as well,” In an interview with Fox Cricket, Brown discussed his outstanding performance during the innings break. The Brisbane Heat won their second title to cap off an exciting Big Bash League season.
Brown’s innings set the record for the highest score in a BBL final and marked the fastest century ever achieved for the Heat. The crowd was treated to an extraordinary display of power hitting, prompting Aussie legend Ricky Ponting to praise the performance during Channel Seven’s commentary.
“We’ve seen something very special there from Josh Brown, magnificent innings,” said Ponting.

Spencer Johnson’s Outstanding Bowling Led the Heat to Their Second BBL Title.
The Brisbane Heat won their second title to cap off an exciting Big Bash League season. Despite Sydney Sixers’ victory over Brisbane Heat in the Qualifier, they fell short in the finals, finishing as runners-up. Josh Brown contributed with a steady 53 off 38 balls, supported by a crucial captain’s knock of 33 from 32 balls. Power-hitting from Matt Renshaw (40 off 22) and Paul Walter (29 off 19) helped Brisbane Heat set 166/8 in their 20 overs.
In response, Sydney Sixers saw contributions from Josh Phillippe and Moises Henriques, who scored 23 and 25, respectively. However, the rest of their batting lineup struggled, leading to a failed chase. Spencer Johnson’s exceptional bowling performance, with figures of 4/26 in four overs, was pivotal in Brisbane Heat’s win, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Matthew Short was exceptional this season, amassing 541 runs at an impressive average of 60.11 and a strike rate of 153.25. He was followed by Josh Brown, who scored 366 runs in just nine innings with an average of 40.66. Aaron Hardie secured the third spot with 334 runs at an average of 37.11. In the bowling department, Xavier Bartlett led with 20 wickets in 11 innings, followed by Spencer Johnson with 19 wickets. Ben Dwarshuis and Paul Walter shared third place, each taking 17 wickets.

4: Sydney Sixers’ loss to Heat marked their fourth defeat in Big Bash League finals, the highest number of final losses by any team. Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers follow with three losses each.
