Tamim: Conditions Must Align for My Return – Bangladesh Premier League

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has indicated that his return to the national team depends on several crucial factors being resolved. He mentioned that for him to rejoin the squad, various conditions must be met, and several issues must be addressed to ensure everything is in place for a successful comeback.

The left-handed batter was pivotal in leading Fortune Barishal to a commanding six-wicket victory over the Comilla Victorians. His exceptional performance secured the win and marked a historic achievement for the franchise. It clinched its first-ever title in the Bangladesh Premier League. The decisive match occurred on Friday night in Mirpur, and his leadership and skill were instrumental in this landmark triumph for the team.

The 35-year-old cricketer made headlines last year when he unexpectedly announced his retirement from international cricket. However, in a surprising turn of events, he reversed his decision just a day later, deciding to continue his career. Despite this, his return to the national team was met with setbacks. He was notably excluded from the ODI World Cup squad. This decision raised many eyebrows and sparked discussions among fans and analysts alike. Since then, he has not been seen in action for Bangladesh, leaving his future with the team uncertain.

During the post-match press conference, Tamim faced questions about his future in cricket, mainly whether he had engaged in any discussions with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) about his plans moving forward. The inquiry highlighted the ongoing speculation surrounding his career, especially given his recent absence from the national team and the uncertainty about whether he would return to international cricket. Reporters were keen to know if any talks had taken place between Tamim and the BCB, indicating the level of interest in his next steps within the cricketing community.

“I haven’t spoken to the new chief selector yet. I was in communication with Jalal bhai (Jalal Yunus ). I was available for a talk but unfortunately, we didn’t get the opportunity but I was in contact with him. I will be traveling abroad tomorrow morning and hopefully after I return, we will sit,” Tamim responded.

The highest run-scorer in Bangladesh’s cricket history hinted that his journey with the national team might not end. While he didn’t make any definitive statements, he suggested that the possibility of returning to the squad remains open, at least from his viewpoint. This remark left the door ajar for a potential comeback, indicating that he hasn’t entirely ruled out the idea of donning the national jersey once again. His words have sparked hope among fans eager to see him back on the field representing Bangladesh.

“I would like to say one thing clearly, for me to come back, a lot of things need to be right. Otherwise there’s no point for me to just come back and play. I am in a stage of my career where I would probably play for another two years. So I need to tell them such things, and since I did not have a final talk with them, it won’t be appropriate for me to comment here,” Tamim stated.

“To be honest if I had thought of answering the critics I might have not done this. I never thought of giving an answer. If my career was of three years, then I might have thought about it. Whatever I did is there for everyone to see,” Tanim mentioned. “When I got involved with this team, my intention was to create a good environment and everyone had a huge contribution behind this.”
