Hridoy reached a significant milestone by becoming the sixth Bangladeshi cricketer in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to score a century. His achievement is particularly noteworthy as he is the first player to reach this landmark in the ongoing edition of the tournament. This accomplishment highlights his exceptional talent and performance, setting him apart in this year’s competition and contributing to the rich history of Bangladeshi batters in the BPL.

The right-handed batter stepped up to the crease during a crucial match phase as Comilla Victorians faced a difficult situation. They were in trouble at just 23 runs with the loss of three wickets, struggling to keep pace with Dhaka’s challenging target of 176 runs. This was a critical juncture in the game, putting immense pressure on him to stabilize the innings and contribute significantly to the chase. His performance in this precarious situation was vital for Comilla’s prospects of achieving their target and securing victory.

Hridoy played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings and skillfully managing the escalating run rates during a critical match phase. His remarkable innings included seven mighty sixes and eight well-placed fours, allowing him to amass an unbeaten 108 runs off 57 balls. Notably, he reached his century in just 53 balls, demonstrating his exceptional ability to accelerate the scoring and anchor the chase. His performance was instrumental in leading Comilla Victorians towards their target and securing a significant victory.

Following his match-winning innings that propelled Comilla to second place in the standings, Hridoy expressed how much he valued the chance to play a leading role. He relished taking charge of the game and driving his team to victory.

“I would like to thank our coach and captain for allowing me to bat up the order and I tried to make use of the opportunity. I had the opportunity to play the main role today. To be honest, I never played for my century. Even when I reached the nineties, I never thought of the landmark. I just tried to dispatch the bad deliveries to the boundary and tried to finish the game,” Hridoy remarked.

“We lost a few early wickets but I had the mindset to remain attacking since our target was 170-plus. I stuck to my plan and tried to execute that. First hundred in T20s, it’s a dream for every batter. I had the opportunity to score a century last season but couldn’t make it. I registered one tonight and it’s important for any batter to score a hundred,” Hridoy shared with the media after the match.

Even though he scored his first BPL century, the 23-year-old considered the three consecutive centuries he achieved against Sri Lanka during his Under-19 career more significant.

“All my hundreds are special but if I have to mention the most special ones, I would rate the three consecutive hundreds against Sri Lanka during my Under-19 days as one of the biggest achievements of my life,” Hridoy explained.

Local batters have faced criticism for their perceived lack of power, frequently cited as a reason for their inability to hit big sixes. However, Hridoy, who hit seven sixes and eight fours, argued that hitting sixes doesn’t necessarily depend on having big muscles.

“It feels good to hit sixes and I try to hit those whenever I get the opportunity. Look it’s not that you need huge muscles like the West Indies cricketers. Our batters can also hit those big sixes. What I feel is that we are not used to such situations often and the more we can execute on the field, the easier it will get. I don’t think hitting sixes is tough, it’s just having that confidence,” he stated.
