Towhid Hridoy, Imran Tahir, and Will Jacks were among the top performers in BPL Week Four.
Rangpur Riders, Comilla Victorians, and Fortune Barishal remained unbeaten during the fourth week of the BPL, with Rangpur maintaining their lead at the top of the points table. Comilla is tied on points with Rangpur but trails due to a lower net run rate. Sylhet Strikers also won in their only match this week. At the same time, Chattogram Challengers, Durdanto Dhaka, and Khulna Tigers lost all their games. With just one victory in the tournament, Dhaka is now out of contention for the knockouts. Here are some of the week’s highlights.
Hridoy, Jacks, Shakib, and Tahir Deliver Standout Performances
Comilla started and ended the week with contrasting run chases featuring brilliant performances from Towhid Hridoy. He remained unbeaten in both games, scoring 108 and 91. Comilla successfully chased down 176 against Dhaka in the first match with just one ball to spare. Hridoy, who had not fully recaptured his form from last season until then, blasted the tournament’s first century, scoring an unbeaten 108 off just 57 balls while others around him struggled.
Next, Hridoy’s unbeaten 91 guided Comilla to a successful chase of 164 against Khulna, which they accomplished with seven wickets in hand and 21 balls remaining. Between these victories, Will Jacks’ century propelled Comilla to match the BPL’s highest-ever total, as they posted 239-3 in a commanding win over Chattogram.
Jacks hammered ten sixes in his unbeaten 108 off 53 balls, while Litton Das contributed with a rapid half-century. Moeen Ali also smashed a quick fifty before wrapping up Chattogram’s innings with a hat-trick. Legspinner Rishad Hossain had time to claim his maiden four-wicket haul. On the other hand, Chattogram’s Al-Amin Hossain had a rough day, conceding 69 runs in his four overs—the highest by any bowler in BPL history.
Later that same day, Rangpur dominated Khulna with a 78-run victory, posting a formidable 219 for 5 while batting first. Shakib Al Hasan and Mahedi Hasan hammered fifties, and Imran Tahir claimed a five-wicket haul—the first by a legspinner in BPL history. Although Alex Hales chipped in with a brisk 60, he was waging a lone battle.
In addition to Tahir, Rangpur’s other recent additions, Reeza Hendricks and Jimmy Neesham also delivered strong performances in their 53-run victory over Chattogram.
Soumya Sarkar, Mahmudullah, and Tamim Iqbal each scored fifties to secure crucial wins for Barishal against Dhaka this week. Meanwhile, Khulna’s fortunes took a drastic turn. They crashed and burned, losing five consecutive matches after starting the tournament with four straight victories.
Batter of the Week: Towhid Hridoy
Towhid Hridoy has enjoyed a truly exceptional week, delivering two standout batsman performances. He scored an unbeaten century and followed it up with an unbeaten 91, which was vital in securing victories for Comilla. His innings were crucial chases, and he remained remarkably composed throughout both matches.
Against Dhaka, Hridoy’s role was especially pivotal. As Comilla faced a series of regular wickets, he anchored the innings with a steady hand, ensuring his team stayed on track. His batting was an elegant masterclass featuring a series of beautifully executed shots. Hridoy’s ability to whip and hoick the ball through midwicket was impressive, showcasing his skill and flair. Additionally, his cover drives, executed with precision and flair, were a visual treat, adding to the spectacle of his performances.
Bowler of the Week: Imran Tahir
Imran Tahir’s recent arrival after completing his SA20 commitments has brought an exciting new dimension to the BPL. This is his debut in the Bangladesh tournament. After taking just one wicket in his first match, Tahir delivered a spectacular five-wicket haul in his next game. His vibrant celebrations have resonated with fans in Dhaka and Chattogram, and Rangpur hopes he continues to make a significant impact in the tournament’s latter stages.
