The 10th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to begin on January 19, 2024, promising another exciting season of competitive cricket. The tournament will run for over a month, culminating on March 1, 2024. Defending champions Comilla Victorians will open the season against Durdanto Dhaka at Mirpur, one of the three venues hosting matches this year. Along with Mirpur, the other two venues for BPL 2024 are Chattogram and Sylhet.
Seven teams will compete in this year’s edition: Comilla Victorians, Durdanto Dhaka, Fortune Barishal, Chattogram Challengers, Rangpur Riders, Sylhet Strikers, and Khulna Tigers. Each team will battle it out in a double round-robin format, meaning all seven teams will face each other twice during the league stage. This tournament phase will run until February 21, ensuring plenty of action for cricket fans.
The top-performing teams will then advance to the playoff stage, which begins on February 25 with the Eliminator match. This will be followed by Qualifier 1, also scheduled for February 25. The losing team from Qualifier 1 will get another chance to secure a spot in the final through Qualifier 2, which will take place on February 27. The grand final is slated for March 1, where the two best teams will clash to crown the BPL 2024 champion.
The tournament will showcase a blend of experienced captains and emerging talent. Each team will be led by a unique skipper, with veteran players like Imrul Kayes, who guided Comilla to back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, and the legendary Shakib Al Hasan, now captaining Rangpur Riders after a season with Fortune Barishal. Emerging stars such as Najmul Hossain Shanto, the Player of the Tournament in 2023, will also be captaining Sylhet Strikers, adding a fresh dynamic to the tournament.
